Today me, Patrik. Victor and Jon went down to play together for the first time since, I don't know - September? Anyway, it was rusty but fun and I'm sure we'll get there in time!

Mixing upcoming album SIRKUS: Day 10

And here we are, at the finish line. The last three songs of the album were mixed down on tape. So now all 14 songs should be finished! Of course we don't want to to take that for granted yet but it still feels amazing since we started this recording in July last year. Now we have to listen for a few days before we can say that this record is on! Me and the boys have to figure some sort of order of the songs as well, then there's mastering...but soon it's ready...release the 9th of March.

So Jon and Patrik came out and had a few beers and we all had a swell time. This is going to be great.

Mixing upcoming album SIRKUS: Day 9

'Sweden slow' was finished first before moving on to 'Bring your arrows'. We first recorded 'Bring your arrows' last summer but we weren't pleased with it so we recorded a new version at Martin's studio in november and it went a lot better. We changed the arrangement completely, took away the guitars and added a grand piano that we recorded in a living room. Once again, Martin was there when I needed him - it's hard to persuade a studio guy to move a lot of his stuff and set it up in a a small apartment! (see the first picture.)

A the pizzeria I finally asked them to do a baked in vegetarian pizza and they agreed to make one for me. I got a pen too where it said Hasslarps Pizzeria, now how about that? What a place.

In the evening we started with Movie (about solitude and grace) - a slow folk-ballad that's going to need some work when we arrive tomorrow. Mixing is not easy, like Bo's former bassplayer Ådi once said: 'mixing sound is like beeing friends with everyone'.

Mixing upcoming album SIRKUS: Day 8

Patrik was hungover so I drove to Hasslarp today. I had left my own car there yesterday because of the great Tuborg beer Bo serves.

We finished 'We both knew' and went on to 'Sweden slow'. Kristian came by with a tuba and did some work. We were supposed to use a proffesional tuba player but our patience ran out when nobody came so Kristian volunteered. We all thought he played brilliant for a guy who's played tuba for two days! From now on, we will call him 'tuba'.

Tomorrow we'll take a break to continue on Sunday. See you then, folks.

Mixing upcoming album SIRKUS: Day 7

Today we finished 'City Light Moments' before moving on to a song with the title 'She walked with her hands tied'. The big problem today was to find the perfect kick drum bit it worked out find. Bo's girl Malin cooked for us today and the food was absolutely splendid! Food is good. It's great actually.

'We both knew' was the last song we started working on, a soul ballad that is going to need some work tomorrow. I think that Bo wants me to remove some instruments..hmm...tricky..

A couple of beers together with Doctor John and Aaron Neville then I went home.

Oh yeah, I lost three games of Addams Family Flipper Arcade three timers in a row to Malin. I'm going to practise more tomorrow. Studio's fun.

Mixing upcoming album SIRKUS: Day 6

How do I sum up today's work? Well today was the first day that we didn't go to the pizzeria. That felt quite nice. We did 'Devil when you cry' and 'City Light Moments' today and everything went smooth. Much easier songs to nail down than previous - not too many instruments and more straight playing.

During break we had a nice listen to Dr John while I watched Bo smoking a couple of cigarettes.
Today was colder than yesterday and I read a Johnny Cash article. 'I don't believe in giving up' Johnny spoke.

Mixing upcoming album SIRKUS: Day 5

After a night of no sleep I arrived to the studio around 12. Bo commented that I hung my head too low but I straightened out after a couple cups of coffee. I'm on my way to bed now since tomorrow morning I have to stop by Polyvision to finish the video for Charlie Fay on my way to Hasslarp.

Well, today me and Bo finished 'Something Weightless' quite quickly before moving on to 'Angels Fable' - another crazy circus-smelling song. We ended the day with 'Mouthful of talk' and I was informed that the song's structure was 'artistic suicide'...we'll see about that - won't we?

Oh, and I also read a quite interesting article about Mr Robert Zimmerman in MOJO. That's all.

Mixing upcoming album SIRKUS: Day 4

Today we started with the song 'Breakthrough'. Me and Bo worked on it for a number of hours before we took off to Hasslarp Pizzeria to eat and to solve a couple of Sudokus. When we came back we mixed it down to analogue tape and there it was - finished.

Next song was 'Something Weightless', a crazy song with a 'mad scientist' hammond organ that yells for attention. A bit tricky to mix down I must say but we did most of it today before our ears started to bleed. I'm sure tomorrow we'll know what to do before moving on to next track - whatever that will be. Goodnight.

Mixing upcoming album SIRKUS: Day 3

Jon, Kristian and I went out to Hasslarp again to record all the harmonies. It went great, Bo Wilson (producer) was in a great mood and the record has really started to take shape. All I need now is a tuba player and then all tracking is done and it's only mixing left. About the tuba; we had a guy who was suppose to help us but he disappeared. Yesterday Kristian told us that he wanted to give it a shot. He has never done it before but that's just the way Kristian is. The deadline is the 15th of january, I sure hope we make it.

Mixing upcoming album SIRKUS: Day 2

Today Helena Arlock Wahlberg from the band Shooting John (www.shootingjohn.com) came and put vocals on 3 tracks: 'Blueberry Breeze', 'Movie (about solitude and grace)' and 'We both knew'.
It all went well and the mystique of Helenas vocals can bring a song to a much deeper level.

Mixing upcoming album SIRKUS: Day 1

To bring you up to speed...

In the summer of 2005 we went to the PON Studio in Hasslarp, an old Hells Angels building outside of Helsingborg Sweden. It's a big studio so we recorded most basics of the songs (drums, bass, piano, electric guitar) live in 7 days or so. It was a great, creative week and there we decided in which direction the record oughta go.

During the fall we moved to Martin Perssons STUDIO 2000 in Helsingborg to record acoustic guitars, organs, trumpet, percussion etc..
Martin was the guy who recorded our first record Vagabond's Polka so it was great to work with him again.

Now, finally we have reached the final part in the making of SIRKUS. The mixing process started today at PON Studios together with recording all my vocals. I was prepared to spend a couple of days on recording it but luckily I did all 14 songs in one day and that, ladies and gentlemen, felt quite great.

Good start.
